TURNAGE Searching for records and info on ALL descendants of the TURNAGE family. ALL Turnages in America are descended from GEORGE TURNAGE Jr., a native of England who came to America about 1705. The Turnage family settled in Covington Co. in the 1850's, coming here from Chesterfield Co., SC. They spread from Covington to Jeff Davis, Lawrence, Jones, Simpson, Copiah and other MS counties.

I'm looking for anybody who is seaching the JASPER or MCCAIN families. Archibald Jasper migrated to Hinds Co by 1830 and Alexander Hamilton McCain's family migrated Warren Co and Webster Co. My great grandfather, Luther H. JASPER, lived the last 30 years of his life in Dentville, MS. He was buried in Pine Bluff Cemetary abt 1915. Not much is known about his wife or children because his one son (my grandfather John Chasely JASPER, Sr) refused to talk about him. I do know there were 3 daughters also Bobbie, Louella (both teachers in CopiahCo at the time of his death) and Mattie Sue who was 14 yrs old when Luther H. JASPER died. George W. GRANT, b ca 1783 Caswell Co., NC, s/o John GRANT & Elizabeth ?, moved to Copiah Co. 1820's with brother William W. GRANT. William d 1829, leaving all to brother George & sister Elizabeth FOSTER (wife of Robert FOSTER). George's first wf d in Copiah Co. before 1838, when m Elizabeth W. SELMAN in Jefferson Co. George's will probated 16 Jan 1855 Copiah Co.; owned much property. After death of Robert FOSTER in 1843, Wilson Co., TN, Elizabeth (GRANT) FOSTER moved to Copiah Co. to join George. Family records say she d 29 July 1856. Did she die in Copiah Co.? Would like to know where William, George & Elizabeth buried. Tombstones? Glad to share GRANT & FOSTER info.

Seeking information on the SANDIFER family that came to Copiah Co. in the early 1800s from Barnwell District, SC. My GGG grandfather Joseph SANDIFER was forn c. 1800 had three wives and 21 children. He is born in SC and burried in Hopewell Cemetery, Copiah Co. Miss. No proof of his father or the connection he has with Johnson P. SANDIFER b c1796; Joshua A. SANDIFER b c1797; William Y. SANDIFER b c1792 or William Nightingale SANDIFER b c1760. All is known is that they left Chester Co. SC at approximately the same time for Barnwell District/now Bamberg Co (Lemons Swamp/Lamons Creek) area and then left there at the same time for Copiah and Pike Cos. in Mississippi. I now live in South Carolina and hope to be able to take this line back further, any descendents with additional information on this line please advise. I may end up with come South Carolina information that will be very helpful. In one day I found 40 gravesites for SANDIFERS and another 30 to 40 RICES' in Bamberg Co., who SANDIFER men seemed to fancy.

I am looking for any information on Solomon CARPENTER who came from Lawrence County  MS to Copiah County Ms where he died in 1839. I am especially interested in locating the cemetery where he is buried. Solomon was an orderly sergeant under Gen. Jackson in the War of 1812. He had three wives, Nancy HUDNELL, Mary SMITH,and Mary HOWELL. He fathered 11 children, one of which was my Great Great Grandfather. FARMER, William. William Farmer appears on 1850 Census of Copiah Co, MS. He is 46 yrs old, b NC. Census entry would indicate his wife is dead by 1850. Marriage records of Lawrence Co, MS, show that Melinda Walker married William Farmer 22 Jan 1827 and that the bondsman was Isaac Walker. Is Malinda the daughter of Isaac Walker and his wife Milly of Copiah, Lawrence, and Hinds Counties? When and where did Melinda die? Where was this Farmer family from?

Harry Argusta WILLIAMS I (my Grand father) lived in Drew Mississippi. He had eleven kids (Erma, Harry Argusta Jr., Dorothy, Joyce-Ann, Charlie, Prince, Katie Rae, Shirlene, Eugene, Peggy Love and Maryann Lavon) all born in Drew. His wife's name was Rachel (Jackson) they were married in Drew Mississippi 12/25/1935, she was born in Drew also 12/6/1915. He was born 2/9/1909 in Crystal Springs Mississippi. His parents (My GGrandparents were named Norh Williams and Katie (Graham). They were from Crystal Springs where I understand there were alot of Williams. I have not been able to track any other Williams except the names of my Grand fathers brothers and sisters (Willie "Bubble", Alberta, Kate, Jessie, Geneva, and Norh Lee) who also may have been born in Crystal Springs. I would appreciate any help or information that you can provide me.

Researching Dr. Joseph Miller BENTON of Copiah County, MS. Dr. Benton was born in Copiah County in 1853 and was living in when he died in Beauregard in 1885, when he was only 32. He had married Delilah Adelina HAMILTON (1851-1925) of Copiah County. They had two children: Joe (1881-1965) and Mary (1885-1968, married K. F. McCollum.

Researching Benjamin Collingwood HARTWELL (1813-1873) and his second wife, Mary HOOVER (1829-1897) of Wesson in Copiah County. Benjamin, a merchant, had been born in Maine but he had settled in Mississippi by 1837. We know of two of his children: Mary (married Duncan McCollum) and Charles Edward Hartwell (1847- 1909), a clerk in the office of Mississippi Mills.

Researching Civil War Major James Montgomery NORMAN (1833-1906) of Copiah County, MS. After serving in the 4th Mississippi Cavalry he was Chancery Clerk of Copiah County and mayor of Hazlehurst. He married Elizabeth King just before the War. She and six of their children survived him: W. W. Norman of Ft. Worth, TX, Dr. P. K. Norman of Memphis, TN, Miss Carrie Norman of Washington, DC, Mrs. Mary Hamilton of Hazlehurst, Mrs. S. H. Settoon of Springfield, LA, and Mrs. Lulie N. Dodge of Haymarket, VA.

John Lemon BELL was born 3/11/1828 we think in Copiah or Simpson County, MS. No confirmation. In March 1848 in Simpson County he married Palatire Tatum Bridges and can be followed by census for there until his death in Sabine Parish, LA in 1891. We have never been able to locate parents or siblings, or his birth on the census. Can you help?

Seeking info on children of Vincent CHANCE and Mary "Polly" East. This Vincent was the son of Philemon CHANCE, b. 1786 in Montgomery Co, GA. He married Polly EAST 26 Dec 1811 in Amite Co, MS, while living in Felicicna Par, LA. He paid taxes in Hinds Co, MS, in 1822 before the area became Copiah Co in 1823. He was in the Copiah Co census in 1830, where he paid taxes through 1833. The Rankin Co, MS census in 1840 shows a Vincent CHANCE which is probably the same one, although the oldest female is not old enough to be Polly East CHANCE. I find no record that Vincent CHANCE paid taxes in Rankin Co. We are searching for the parents of Daniel CHANCE, b. 17 Mar 1821 in LA. Any help will be appreciated.
